The Healing Our Island website is a Hawaii County resource to promote a drug free, healthy community. It's mission is to have everyone working together to heal our island from the harmful effects of crystal methamphetamine or 'ice.' Hawaii has been impacted by the harmful effects of substance abuse upon families, businesses, and communities. In order to improve Hawaii's quality of life, this site promotes community based programs and grassroots efforts toward education, prevention, treatment and recovery for youth and at-risk adults. The goal is to ensure that Hawaii Island is a healthy and safe place for our children and our families.

Center for Substance Abuse Research (CESAR)

Located at the University of Maryland at College Park, CESAR is dedicated to addressing the problems substance abuse creates for individuals, families, and communities. To this end, the mission of CESAR is to inform policymakers, practitioners, and the general public about substance abuse—its nature and extent, its prevention and treatment, and its relation to other problems.

Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth (CAMY)

The Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth at Georgetown University monitors the marketing practices of the alcohol industry to focus attention and action on industry practices that jeopardize the health and safety of America's youth. Reducing high rates of underage alcohol consumption and the suffering caused by alcohol-related injuries and deaths among young people requires using the public health strategies of limiting the access to and the appeal of alcohol to underage persons.

National Institiute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA)

NIAAA provides leadership in the national effort to reduce alcohol-related problems by: 1) Conducting and supporting research in a wide range of scientific areas including genetics, neuroscience, epidemiology, health risks and benefits of alcohol consumption, prevention, and treatment; 2) Coordinating and collaborating with other research institutes and Federal Programs on alcohol-related issues; 3) Collaborating with international, national, state, and local institutions, organizations, agencies, and programs engaged in alcohol-related work; and 4) Translating and disseminating research findings to health care providers, researchers, policymakers, and the public.
