Incentives
Aloha!
Welcome to the IAL incentives site! We encourage you to become familiar with the information contained on this site and participate in the process of identifying incentives that will result in the preservation of IAL and the growth of Hawaii agriculture.
We will use this site as a means to keep you updated on the development of incentives and to inform you of events in your community and around the state. Please check back regularly because we will be updating the site with new information about incentives and recommendations for incentives as they are submitted.
IAL Background:
The identification and designation of Important Agricultural Lands (IAL) was first proposed at the 1978 Constitutional Convention and subsequently approved by voters in the same year. Enacted as Article XI, Section 3, of the Constitution of the State of Hawaii, the State is required to conserve and protect agricultural lands, promote diversified agriculture, increase agricultural self-sufficiency and assure the availability of agriculturally suitable lands.
With the passing of Act 183, SLH 2005, the Department of Agriculture will work with the Department of Taxation and stakeholders to identify incentives for agriculture; prepare a report to the Legislature which includes recommendations and rationale for incentives and description of the process; and compile reports from state agencies on the impact of incentives.
