More than 500 tour the Urban Garden Center!

The Second Saturday at the Gardens welcomed more than 500 visitors, including Governor Linda Lingle on August 9th! To view a photo gallery of the event, click on the headline.

The August Second Saturday event was highlighted by a visit from Governor Linda Lingle and her special guest Kaili Kane.  The Governor toured the gardens and special booths from the UH-College of Tropical Agriculture & Human Resources (CTAHR) and
its Master Gardener's program and the State Departments of Health and Agriculture.

The Governor also planted a garden with some keiki.

The Governor visits the table by the Dept. of Health, which promotes good nutrition and healthy living. The display by HDOA's Plant Quarantine Branch had a constant stream of people and questions.

The HDOA Agricultural Development Division conducted a farmers' market survey and educated folks on buying local. HDOA's Aquaculture Development Program displayed some of Hawaii's aquaculture.

The Hawaii Agriculture Research Center also provided information on their projects. The Governor and Kaili check out the tilapia, catfish and prawns in the aquaculture exhibit.
