| Ken Kamiya says the best way to eat a papaya is just to cut it open and add a little shot of lemon juice. |
Ken Kamiyhas been a farmer for more than 30 years in Hawaii. A second generation farmer, Ken was raised working on his father's farm in Waimanalo where they raised bananas, taro and papaya.
Ken currently grows his Kamiya Gold papaya on his 25-acre farm in Laie on the North Shore of Oahu. Kamiya Gold was bred for its large size, sweet orange-yellow flesh and thin skin. It's a hybrid that is popular with local customers.
Ken is a strong advocate for transgenic papaya and was recently involved in helping to map the genome of the Sunup papaya.
