Third generation farmer, Roger Hirako, flew in from the Big Island and brought with him an impressive array of vegetables, some of which many may not know grows in Hawaii. Together with his brother, Jeffrey, they work four parcels of land totaling 145 acres in the cool climate of Waimea. They grow cabbage; red cabbage, kai choy (Chinese mustard cabbage); iceberg, romaine and other varieties of lettuces; broccoli; and celery.
