Located on the slopes of Mauna Kea, Hamakua Springs Country Farms is 600-acre farm, growing Williams and apple bananas, hydroponic tomatoes, Japanese cucumbers and baby lettuce. The farm is run by three generations of the Ha family, including company President Richard and June Ha, Richard’s mother Florence Ha and Richard and June’s daughter Tracy and her husband, Kimo Pa.

“We grow crops in a sustainable way,” says Richard Ha. “This means that we are concerned about the long-term well-being of our employees, our community and our environment.”

Hamakua Springs selects the best-tasting varieties to grow and then invents or adopts a cropping system that allows the farm to bring the product to market. The farm works to utilize its assets to their best advantage, paying close attention to energy and labor efficiencies. For the past five years, Hamakua Springs has received food safety certification by Davis Fresh Technology — raising the bar to ensure healthy working conditions for employees and safe products for customers.

The farm’s line of tomatoes includes beef tomatoes, tomatoes on the vine, cocktail tomatoes, yellow cocktail tomatoes, Hamakua sweet tomatoes and heirloom tomatoes. Lettuces include Hamakua’s own special chef blend, Manoa lettuce, butter lettuce and watercress.

Hamakua Springs’ produce can be purchased at Foodland, Safeway, KTA, Costco and Star Market.
