The original plantation of what was to become Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Corporation was established in 1946 near Keaau on the Big Island of Hawaii. After years of patience, the first commercial crop was harvested in 1956. Today, their nuts come from nearly 10,000 acres of orchards and Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Corporation has become one of the largest processors of macadamia nuts in the world.

"Mauna Loa has perfected the dry roasting process resulting in a crunchy, creamy macadamia nut flavor that is unmatched", said Douglas Lee, General Maganer. With rich volcanic soil, tropical rain, golden sunshine, and their careful attention to quality at every step of harvest and processing keep their nuts the highest quality. Charlie Young, Mauna Loa's Plant Manager says, "Continually exceeding consumer satisfaction is Mauna Loa's number one goal."

In this "green" era, Mauna Loa makes a huge effort to be environmentally friendly, composting all the macadamia husks and returns them to the field to add organic nutrients to the orchards. Mauna Loa also burns the macadamia nut shells to creat heat that not only dries the nuts but also supplies electricity to the production facility.

Customers can visit their Visitor Center next to the orchard and plant to enjoy tours, free samples and shop for a variety of macadamia nut products. Roasted, flavored, or chocolate covered macadamia nuts are the perfect gift from Hawaii. A can of 24 oz Dry Roasted Macadamia with Sea Salt, their SOQ certified product, can be found exclusively at Costco in North America.
