HAWAI`I APPROVED FOR FEDERAL CROP INSURANCE PROGRAM

It's good news for many of Hawaii's 5,000 farms - a new form of crop insurance, called AGR-Lite, is now available through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Risk Management Agency. Until now, federal crop insurance was only available for certain types of crops. Under the AGR-Lite program, small farms may obtain crop insurance based on the revenue of the farm, rather than particular crops. Coverage includes farm revenue losses due to natural disasters and also market fluctuations. Even better news is that the premiums are also subsidized by the federal government.
