Varroa Mite Surveys
HDOA staff and cooperating beekeepers are continuously surveying the state for varroa mites. To date, varroa mites have been detected on Oahu and as of August 22, the area near Hilo Harbor on Hawaii Island.
It is important that surveys continue on neighbor islands because early detection increases the likelihood for successful eradication on neighbor islands.
Suspected mite infestations and honey bees near ports on Oahu should be reported immediately to the HDOA Pest Hotline at 643-PEST (7378).
