Educating the Public on Invasive Species
Plant Quarantine inspectors conduct presentations to educate the public on invasive pests that threaten Hawai`i's environment and agriculture.
The Plant Quarantine Branch conducts outreach efforts to educate the public on invasive species and how they may play a role in protecting Hawai`i.
Each year, dozens of schools and community groups visit the Plant Quarantine Branch, which is located near Sand Island on O`ahu. Inspectors explain why Hawai`i's environment is unique and the importance of keeping some plants and animals from being transported to Hawai`i. Animals such as snakes, large reptiles, wild mammals, and certain types of birds, rodents and others may cause damage to our environment and agriculture. Certain plants may also bring plant diseases and pests that could also create problems in our state.
