Promoting Food Safety

HDOA Quality Assurance inspectors check local and imported commodities for compliance with processing requirements and grade specifications.

Promoting Food Safety

HDOA's Quality Assurance Branch activities protect the interests of consumers and to ensure a fair marketplace.

The Commodities Branch has inspectors that inspect and grade fruits, vegetables and other commodities like coffee, macadamia nuts for wholesalers, retailers and consumers.  For more information on the work of the Commodities Branch, click here.

The Measurement Standards Branch works to ensure that any device that measures time, distance, volume or weight is accurate.  Inspectors in the branch test gas pumps, scales of all types and sizes, retail price scanning devices, taxi meters and more.  They also check that products are correctly labeled and packaged correctly. The branch's Metrology Laboratory maintains the most accurate measuring devices in the state.  For more information on this branch, click here.
