Strategic National Stockpile (SNS)

The SNS is a national repository of life-saving pharmaceuticals and medical supplies established to support state and local public health agencies in the event of a national emergency. Since no one can predict precisely where or when disaster – natural, accidental or an act of terrorism – will strike, and few if any local governments have the resources to maintain sufficient stockpiles on their own, a national stockpile has been created as a resource for all. The SNS is designed to be able to respond at anytime and anywhere within the U.S. or its territories.

Hawaii Department of Health works together with federal, state and local entities to ensure that the SNS medicines will quickly and securely reach Hawaii’s people in the event of a federal decision to deploy these supplemental emergency resources.
