CHD aims to maximize and protect healthy
lifestyles by improving health practices and access to health questions
through a system of comprehensive, family-centered nursing services to
individuals, families, groups and communities.
CHD works within the community, providing education,
promoting healthy lifestyles to address chronic disease and their
complications, and improving the nutritional level of Hawaii's
residents.

The Communicable Disease Division monitors the
number of cases of tuberculosis and Hansen's disease, and other
transmittable diseases

The Disease Outbreak Control Division (DOCD) comprises the Disease Investigation Branch, Immunization
Branch, and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response (Public Health Preparedness) Branch. These programs work together to
monitor, investigate, prevent, and control infectious diseases in Hawaii, especially those preventable through immunizations,
and to ensure Hawaii’s ability to respond to emergencies that threaten the public’s health. Toward these goals, DOCD works to
strengthen the relationships between the Department of Health and other partners including laboratories, hospitals, schools,
emergency response agencies, private organizations, and the military.

EMSSB aims to minimize death, injury, and
disability due to life threatening situations by assuring the
availability of high quality emergency medical care through the
development of a system capable of providing coordinated emergency
medical and health services.

The Department of Health's Dental Health
Division develops public policy to help assure adequate access to basic
dental care and through the development and implementation of early
detection, disease prevention and treatment programs targeting high
risk populations.
