Hawaii’s Executive Office on Aging has received a $100,000
grant from the Archstone Foundation for the second phase of its program
improving care for people nearing the end of life. Entitled
Compassionate Conversations, the program provides resources and
training about death and dying to professionals who work with older
adults.
"Dying is an elders issue. This grant will allow us to continue our
work integrating end-of-life issues into the continuum of care we
provide to older adults and their caregivers. We hope that the end of
life will not be a time of crisis but rather a time of reconciliation
and peace, " said Marilyn R. Seely, Director of the Executive Office on
Aging.
During the first phase of this program, training was provided
throughout the State, an award-winning video was created, and an
end-of-life care resource kit for aging network professionals was
published and disseminated to every state. The award for the second
phase of the program supports continued training in Hawaii as well as
assistance to other States to incorporate resources first piloted in
Hawaii.
California’s Archstone Foundation is a private grant making
organization, whose mission is to contribute toward the preparation of
society in meeting the needs of an aging population.
