May 2, 2002
Congratulations to the students, parents, guardians and teachers of
schools who participated in the Department of Health’s February
2002 School Recycling Challenge. Once again, over 25,000 students
representing 62 schools collected over 1,500,000 aluminum cans in one
month! That’s more than one can for every resident in
Hawai’i!
The State Department of Health partnered with TOMRA Recycling
Network located in Aiea to promote school collection programs as one
effective way to simultaneously reduce waste, learn how to protect the
environment, and raise funds for extra-curricular programs.
