The Hawaii Department of Health is pleased to announce the
appointment of Dr. Thomas Vendetti as the new Maui Community Mental
Health Center (MCMHC) Chief. Dr. Vendetti begins his new position on
Monday, August 5, 2002.
In his new position, Dr. Vendetti will oversee the implementation of
services and programs for Maui residents with severe mental illness and
substance use disorders.
Prior to his appointment, Dr. Vendetti was the Division Director of
Mental Health Kokua on Maui where he tended the programs within the
Services Division of Maui County to ensure the quality of treatment for
people with mental illness. A Maui resident since 1994, Dr. Vendetti
has served the mental health needs of the community in various roles
for over seven years.
Prior to coming to Hawaii, Dr. Vendetti ran a private general
practice in Arizona, serving children, couples and families with
individual and group psychotherapy, psychological testing, crisis
intervention and neuropsychological evaluations. He also spent five and
a half years as Clinical Director of The Guidance Center’s Acute
Care Unit for the seriously mentally ill and individuals in crisis in
Arizona.
The MCMHC received national accreditation this year from the
Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission also known as CARF. The Center,
including offices on Molokai and Lanai, received the highest form of
accreditation for the full three-years. The Center provides services to
eligible individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. For
