The Department of Health, Office of Health Status Monitoring (OHSM)
has announced that the most recent Hawaii Health Survey (HHS) data are
now available on-line at www.state.hi.us/doh/stats/surveys/hhs/hhs01.html.
Modeled after the National Health Information Survey, the HHS
telephone survey is the primary source of statewide estimates of
gender, age, income, race, education, household size, insurance status,
health status, morbidity, and food security.
Approximately 5,500 Hawaii households were contacted over the course
of the year for this statewide household survey, which gathers data on
every member of the household, including children and senior citizens,
segments often excluded from other surveys.
Says Alvin Onaka, Ph.D., State Registrar and Chief, Office of Health
Status Monitoring, "Information like this is extremely useful to those
who plan and evaluate healthcare programs throughout the state, in both
the public and private sectors."
SMS Research has conducted this survey since 1996. "We’re
pleased to be able to work on a survey like this, that provides so much
critical information," notes James Dannemiller, President, SMS
Research. "It’s one of the best surveys done in the state. The
methods are rigorous and the quality and accuracy are high."
