Hazardous Waste Transporter Ordered to Pay Fine

HONOLULU - The Department of Health (DOH) has filed a complaint and order against Global Environmental Services Group, LLC (Global) alleging violations of the state's hazardous waste rules. Global faces a penalty of $22,500.

Global is a hazardous waste transporter. DOH cited Global for the failure to use the hazardous waste manifest properly. DOH conducted hazardous waste and used oil inspections at Kauai High Schools on or around January 24 and 25, 2002. A manifest tracking the transport of containers of mercury and mercury-contaminated debris collected from the schools indicated that Global was the transporter of record. However the materials were packaged and transported by another entity without the presence of a Global representative.

In addition to paying the penalty, Global has been ordered to comply with State hazardous waste and used oil rules for the cited violations according to a schedule established by the State.

Global has twenty days to respond to the order.
