Dr. Rupert R. Goetz, M.D.

Honolulu - Rupert R. Goetz, M.D., has taken the helm as Medical Director for the Hawaii State Hospital (HSH). In his new role, Goetz will be responsible for ensuring clients at the state’s public psychiatric facility receive effective, quality clinical services.

Areas of expertise under Goetz’s supervision include: psychiatry, psychology, rehabilitation, social services, medical services, neuropsychology and clinical dietary services.

A board certified psychiatrist and family practitioner, Goetz is the former Medical Director of Oregon’s Clackamas County Mental Health Center and an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Oregon Health Sciences University.

He has been active with the National Association of Mental Health Program Directors, serving on the Medical Directors’ Council and as Chief Editor for publications focusing on reducing the use of seclusion and restraint.

"Dr. Goetz brings a wealth of experience to this position," Guggenheim said. "It is a real pleasure to have him joining the staff of Hawaii State Hospital."
