HONOLULU— The Hawaii State Department of Health Genetics
Program and the University of Hawaii are sponsoring a "Celebration of
DNA Day" April 23rd, 2003. The event will take place at the
University of Hawaii Manoa Campus Courtyard and Mall from 10:30 am -
2:30 pm.
April 2003 marks the 50th anniversary of Watson and
Crick’s discovery of the double helix structure of DNA. April
also marks the completion of the massive Human Genome Project to map
the entire "genetic blueprint" of a human being.
The celebration will include exhibits highlighting genetics
activities within the state and information about careers in the field.
There will also be a live genetic game show, food and chances to win
great prizes like a surfboard or $35,000 in tuition.
If you’ve ever wondered why your hair is brown, your eyes are
green or what the future of cancer research looks like… genetics
holds the key…. come unlock the door at UH on April 23.
