Tuberculosis Control Program Returns to Lanakila Health Center

HONOLULU - The Department of Health (DOH) Tuberculosis (TB) Control Program will resume services at Lanakila Health Center on May 27, 2003. To accommodate the move, the TB Program will be closed to the public for one week. No TB services will be available between Monday, May 19 and Monday, May 26, 2003.

The Lanakila TB Clinic was closed for renovation in February 2002. On May 27th when the facility re-opens, the new facility will feature a state-of-the-art digital X-ray unit and a negative air pressure system. The temporary clinics at Dillingham Shopping Plaza and Leahi Hospital, that provided services during the renovation, will be closed once the Lanakila TB Clinic is fully operational.

Beginning Tuesday, May 27, the Lanakila TB Clinic, located at 1700 Lanakila Avenue in Kalihi, will be open for tuberculosis skin tests between 7:45 AM – 3:00 PM daily, except Thursdays.

Chest X-ray services will move from Leahi Hospital to the Lanakila TB Clinic in June. Patients can call the TB information line at 832-5738 to confirm location and hours of X-ray services.

As always, services offered by the DOH Tuberculosis Control Program are free. These include TB skin tests, chest X-rays, TB evaluations and medications. Lanakila Health Center offers free parking. Patients will be able to access the TB Clinic from the building’s ground level entrance, near the lower parking lot.

The new Lanakila TB Clinic will host a grand opening celebration on Thursday, July 17th at 9:30 AM. Free tours, entertainment and health information will be available to the community.
