HONOLULU - Hawaii State Department of Health (DOH) employees who
excelled at leadership, teamwork and public service over the last year
were recognized today at the department’s annual Employee Service
Awards at the State Capitol Auditorium.
Manager of the year went to Paul Effler, M.D., head of the Disease
Outbreak Control Division, for his leadership in the area of
bio-terrorism preparedness, guiding the state’s public health
efforts against SARS and building the strongest disease surveillance
system that the state has ever had.
Jerry Guieb of Molokai was the DOH employee of the year. Guieb works
as a Food Services Supervisor for the Kalaupapa Institution Facilities
Section. He is a long-time caring employee that often works
seven-days-a-week providing services without additional
compensation.
The Adult Mental Health Division (AMHD) ACCESS Line office was
honored Team of The Year for their united dedication and hard work.
This year they expanded the hotline to encompass mental health crisis
services and added to a comprehensive statewide system with no increase
in resources.
Subordinate, peers and supervisors submitted nominations of those
who demonstrated superior service. Nominations were reviewed by the
Incentive Service and Awards Committee and organized by the DOH
Personnel Office.
DOH wants to congratulate all nominees for their dedication and
commitment to the health of the state of Hawai`i.
