HONOLULU - The Department of Health (DOH) has filed a complaint and
order against Beachside Roofing, LLC (Beachside), located at 91-522
Nukuawa Street, Kapolei, Hawaii for alleged violations of the
state’s hazardous waste rules. Beachside was cited for (1)
mismanagement and treatment of hazardous wastes and (2) storage of
hazardous waste without a permit. Containers of hazardous waste roofing
and waterproofing coatings were left open, allowing the solvent
components to be released to the air. The containers were not labeled
with the words “Hazardous Wastes,” not clearly marked with
an accumulation start date, and stored in a manner likely to cause the
containers to leak as evidenced by several spills of wastes observed by
the DOH during the inspection.
