HONOLULU - New TB Treatment guidelines will be the featured topic at a symposium for physicians, scheduled for August 7, 2003, at 7:00 p.m. The symposium will be held on the ground floor of Lanakila Health Center, 1700 Lanakila Avenue in Kalihi. The Hawai`i Thoracic Society, the American Lung Association of Hawai`i, and the Hawai`i Tuberculosis Control Program are co-sponsoring this free event.

Dr. Kenneth G. Castro, who serves as an Assistant Surgeon General with the U.S. Public Health Service and the Director of TB Elimination at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, will lead the lecture on new TB treatment guidelines, latest TB diagnostic tools, and infection control.

New tuberculosis treatment recommendations, issued early 2003 by the American Thoracic Society, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control Prevention, and the Infectious Diseases Society of America, affect all health care providers who diagnose and treat TB disease in Hawai`i.
