HONOLULU - The Department of Health, Environmental Health Administration, will be sponsoring a public informational meeting regarding the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Department of Health (DOH) and the North West CruiseShip Association (NWCA). The meeting will outline practices and procedures the cruise industry will sustain to comply with Hawai`i’s unique environmental standards.

The meeting will be held on December 11, from 6-8pm, in the auditorium of the State Capitol. Parking is available in the basement of the Capitol.

Laurence Lau, Deputy Director for Environmental Health, will open with a presentation on the MOU and highlight changes recently proposed. Following the presentation, representatives from the DOH, NWCA, and the Coast Guard will be available for a question/answer session.

Informational exhibits regarding the MOU and other environmental aspects of the cruise ship industry will be displayed as well. Community organizations, other agencies, and interested members of the public are welcome to attend and/or host an exhibit.
