HONOLULU - Early intervention services that help children overcome
delays in communication, physical, and other developmental skills, are
being expanded to Kapolei and Ewa communities.
A blessing and open house of the Kapolei Early Intervention Program
will be held this Friday, February 13, 2004.
"The Early Intervention Section (EIS) of the State Department of
Health is pleased to announce that, through a new contract with Easter
Seals Hawaii, there will be increased early intervention services for
the growing Leeward areas," stated Sue Brown, EIS supervisor.
A federal and state-mandated program, early intervention services
are provided statewide to children from birth to three years of age
with developmental delays or at-risk for developmental delays. Services
assist the child in five developmental areas: physical, cognitive,
communication, social or emotional, and adaptive.
Currently Easter Seals is the largest private provider of early
intervention services in the state with three other locations (Kauai,
Hilo, and Honolulu). Easter Seals Hawaii has provided a
variety of services to the people of Hawaii since 1946.
Easter Seals also provides services to youth and adults with
disabilities statewide.
If the child is eligible for early intervention
services, there is no income restriction to enroll and there is no cost
to the child and family.
Anyone concerned about a child’s
development should call the Hawaii Keiki Information Service System
(H-KISS) referral and information line at EIS at 973-9633 for Oahu and
1-800-235-5477 for Neighbor Islands.
