FAITH-BASED HEALTH ACTIVITIES DIRECTORY

HONOLULU – A directory is being compiled that will list health activities conducted by or at faith-based organizations within the State of Hawaii.  It will be available over the Internet by the end of the year.  It is being compiled by the Hawaii State Department of Health, under the auspices of a grant from the federal Office of Minority Health.

This preliminary research will determine how many organizations provide health based activities, regardless of whether they conduct the activity or just provide space to groups who conduct the activity.  Examples of health activities are:  blood pressure screenings, exercise classes and walking programs, smoking cessation activities, diabetes management, alcohol or drug recovery programs, parenting classes, healthy heart or healthy eating programs, health education, mental health groups - any activities considered beneficial to one’s health.

All faith-based organizations are encouraged to respond to the letter they will receive in the mail or to a phone interview in the next few weeks.  For more information, contact 586-4660.
