RECYCLING CHALLENGE 2004
Results of the 20th Annual Aluminum School Recycling Challenge

The Department of Health’s (DOH) 2004 School Recycling Challenge inspired over 12,400 students to turn trash into reusable resource and contribute to the health of the environment. Participating elementary school students representing 48 schools statewide collected over 1,400,000 aluminum cans. That’s more than one can for every resident in Hawai`i!

The DOH partnered with Reynolds Recycling and Recycle Hawai`i to promote year-round school recycling as one way to reduce waste, clean the ‘aina, and raise funds. Prizes included cash awards to winning schools and plaques made of recycled glass. Special thanks goes to Domino’s Pizza and K-Mart for donations of food coupons and school supplies as prizes for the students.
