The contents of this ADA Jeopardy Game was developed
by the Disability and Communication Access Board, State of Hawaii, with thanks
to the National Center on Accessibility for the development of the Jeopardy
template using Microsoft PowerPoint software. Replication and use of the game is encouraged as long as it
is being used for education and not-for-profit purposes.
The PowerPoint presentation along with the guide, can
be downloaded from our web site, noted above, under ÔADA Coordination.Õ
Welcome to ADA Jeopardy
This game
is based upon the television show ÒJeopardyÓ in which players are given Ôthe
ANSWERÕ and must provide the ÔQUESTION.Õ
In the
official game, a participant earns the $ value with a correct response but
loses the $ value with an incorrect response. Paper money is not included. If you wish to use paper money, we recommend you purchase it
from a game or craft store.
In the
television show, contestants receive money for a correct response and lose
money for an incorrect response.
The television show is a competition and the moderator requires an exact
response. Since this ADA Jeopardy
game is a teaching tool for training purposes, rather than a competition, it is
suggested that the ADA Jeopardy game be played with a variation on the
exactness of the response depending upon the sophistication of the
audience. An audience of ADA
Coordinators or disability advocates should be able to provide exact wording
responses. On the other hand, an
audience of the general public or novices may often respond with the correct
concept but may not always have the exact wording, especially if the response
is a phrase and not a single word.
Thus, trainer discretion is suggested in terms of acceptance of a
correct response.
The authors
suggest the following levels:
(1)
With novice
audiences, do not penalize players by taking away $ with an incorrect
response. Losing money may
discourage players from even offering a response. Also, accept responses that reflect the correct concept but
not the exact wording.
(2)
With intermediate
level audiences, do not penalize players by taking away $ with a response which
have the correct concept but not the exact wording. Tell the player that the response is not Ôexact enoughÕ but
do not give them credit for a correct response. Let another participant offer another response. If responses are clearly wrong, then
take away $.
(3) With
advanced audiences, especially an audience of individuals who are ADA
Coordinators, ADA consultants, or disability advocates, they should be trained
to know and differentiate the subtleties of the terms and should be required to
provide exact responses.
NOTE TO USERS:
THE JEOPARDY GAME WAS DEVELOPED
USING POWERPOINT SOFTWARE.
IT IS VERY SENSITIVE TO TOUCH.
POINT THE CURSOR AND CLICK ONCE VERY
LIGHTLY.
CLICKING MORE THAN ONCE OR HOLDING A
CLICK FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME WILL CAUSE THE PROGRAM TO ÔJUMPÕ TO A
DIFFERENT SLIDE.
