ACTING MAYOR

MESSAGE FROM ACTING MAYOR KIRK W. CALDWELL
July 26, 2010
I am pleased to send my warmest aloha to everyone gathered for the celebration of the enactment of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, that prohibits private employers, state and local governments, employment agencies and labor unions from discriminating against qualified individuals with disabilities.
The ADA legislation provides access to government programs and facilities and bans job discrimination in application procedures, hiring, firing, advancement, compensation, job training and in other conditions and privileges of employment.
I applaud the work of the Eye of the Pacific Guide Dogs Foundation, sponsors of this event, for their ongoing support of our community by helping the vision-impaired with highly competent guide dogs.
On behalf of the people of the City and County of Honolulu, I extend deep appreciation to all involved in perpetuating the rights of individuals with disabilities.
Kirk W. Caldwell
