WHEREAS, individuals with disabilities make significant contributions to our community as valued members of our society, and;

WHEREAS, individuals with disabilities are faced with challenges each day in order to participate fully in all aspects of American life, and;

WHEREAS, the far-reaching reforms of the Americans with Disabilities Act have played a significant role in enhancing the quality of life for millions of Americans and this year marks the 20th anniversary of this landmark legislation, and;

WHEREAS, this is an important opportunity to recognize the progress we have made and reflect upon efforts to remove barriers so every individual can realize their full potential;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHARMAINE TAVARES, Mayor of the County of Maui, have the distinct honor of proclaiming and do hereby proclaim July 25-31, 2010 as

AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT WEEK

throughout the County of Maui, and celebrate the talents and accomplishments of people with disabilities in our community.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the County of Maui to be affixed hereto.
