Welcome to the ADA Coordination and Resources Page
Administrative Directive 97-01 entitled "Responsibilities for Americans with Disabilities Act Coordination and Implementation" indicates that the State of Hawaii, as both an employer and operator of government programs and services or benefits is committed to equal access for individuals with disabilities.
It includes naming the Disability and Communication Access Board (formerly known as the Commission on Persons with Disabilities) as the ADA Coordinator for the Executive Branch of State government. As part of that continuing ADA coordination effort, this web site is developed and maintained by the Disability and Communication Access Board.
The Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act (ADAAA) of 2008 was signed into law on September 25, 2008. It went into effect on January 1, 2009 with final regulations issued on March 24, 2011. Information about the ADAAA is available on the EEOC web site which can be accessed by clicking on "Links to Federal ADA Agencies" on the right navigation bar of this page.
On September 15, 2010, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) issued final regulations on Title II and III of the ADA. The portion relating to access to services of state and county government went into effect on March 15, 2011.
