To ensure that Hawaii is prepared for a possible bioterrorism attack
using the smallpox virus, 181 public health and healthcare
professionals have been vaccinated against the disease. This program
involved intensive education and training efforts statewide, including
a series of smallpox presentations for potential smallpox response team
members, vaccination training modules for clinic staff, and adverse
event surveillance systems spanning across the state.
