2007 DISABILITY ACCESS CONFERENCE
Design for All
September 6, 2007
Ala Moana Hotel
Honolulu, Hawaii
CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT
“Design For All” reflects projects and designs which are inclusive and “people-centered”; they personify not just accessibility but the ability to create buildings and facilities that respect people of all ages and abilities, be they children, adults, seniors, or those with disabilities.
The term “design for all” is based on the concept of “universal design”, creative solutions that blend the architecture and design with products or special features to achieve the goal of making the site or facility usable by as many people as possible.
Successful and exemplary “universal design” exceeds regulated building and accessibility codes; it combines aesthetics and function, and takes into account the entire user experience.
The Disability and Communication Access Board is presenting the “2007 Disability Access Conference: Design for All” on September 6, 2007 at the Ala Moana Hotel. This full-day conference will be an opportunity for individuals and design professionals to learn, share ideas and promote exemplary designs that create social and physical environments which successfully integrate imaginative solutions and diverse user needs.
