Facility Access Unit | Go Back

The Facility Access Unit's responsibilities are to:

  • Review and provide recommendations on all state and county plans and specifications for buildings and facilities in order to ensure compliance with Hawaii Revised Statutes (HRS) §103-50 and Hawaii Administrative Rules Chapters 11-216 and 11-217.
  • Conduct review of codes, standards, and other design guidelines for access for persons with disabilities, including clarifications of the ADAAG for state and county buildings and facilities.
  • Provide technical assistance through responses to questions via fax and phone inquires, training, site surveys, and other public education efforts to government agencies and design professionals on the requirements for accessible design.
Facility Access Unit is staffed by Curtis Motoyama, Facility Access Coordinator; Gary Batcheller, Duane Buote, Mona Higa, and David Poe, Facility Access Specialists; and Laurie Palenske, Facility Access Support Specialist.
