Respite
Companion Service Program
This program
is administered under the Department of Human Services and is an employment
and training program established to provide part-time employment opportunities
as respite companions for low-income persons, aged 55 years and older. The purpose
of such companions is to assist families provide 24-hour care for a frail elderly

Respite care
services are available in Oahu's communities to help caregivers who need a break
from the often exhausting demands of providing home care for extended periods
of time. Respite care can be provided in a variety of ways and time periods.
It can be offered in the home or in an outside facility such as an overnight
respite care center or an adult day care program. Usually, respite care is provided
on an intermittent or temporary basis to substitute for a caregiver who needs
to get away for a while. For further information about this program, contact

Vocational
Rehabilitation and Services to the Blind
Division
The services
for the blind are administered through Ho’opono, the Services for the Blind
Branch of the Vocational Rehabilitation and Services to the Blind Division.
This program provides comprehensive services on Oahu and specialized services
to the neighbor islands to meet the varied needs of persons who are blind, both
deaf and blind or visually impaired, regarding vocational rehabilitation and

Chore Services
The chore program provides
basic housekeeping services to eligible adults in order to help them remain
at home and as independent as possible. The Adult and Community Care Services
Branch of the Department of Human Services (DHS) administers this program. They
