Hawaii's Fraud Prevention & Resource Guide
August 2008
Hawaii's Fraud Prevention & Resource Guide is designed to help residents protect
themselves against fraud. The 134-page guide provides information about different types
of fraud, including identity theft, securities fraud, marketing fraud, and healthcare
fraud. The guide includes a special section for kupuna, our elders, and a directory of
county, state, and national resources to contact for information and assistance. The
State of Hawaii Executive Office on Aging, Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs,
and Department of the Attorney General collaborated to produce the guide. Major
funding came from the Executive Office on Aging through a grant to SMP Hawaii from the
U.S.Administration on Aging.

The purpose of the State plan is to set the direction for the years 2008 through 2011, for the
development of comprehensive and coordinated systems to serve older adults
and their caregivers.
A Profile of Older Americans: 2008

A data review of the demographic characteristics of older Americans living in
the United States. Sources of data are the U.S. Bureau of the Census, the National
Center on Health Statistics, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
A Report on Respite Services for Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (GRG) in Hawaii
Act 220, SLH 2008 requested the Executive Office on Aging to conduct an inventory of respite services
in Hawaii for grandparents raising grandchildren.
Report on the Feasibility of Providing Consumer Directed Services for Non-Medicaid
Eligible Older Adults and Persons with Disabilities in the State of Hawaii
Act 220, SLH 2008 requested the Executive Office on Aging to conduct a study to
investigate the feasibility of implementing a consumer-directed program called Cash and Counseling.
Cash and Counseling Program and Its Implementation in Other States
Act 204, SLH 2007 requested the Executive Office on Aging to research the cash and counseling
program and its implementation in other states. Cash and Counseling is a promising program that
ensures consumer-directed home- and community-based care for elders and persons with disabilities.
Eldercare Policies in the Workplace

Results of a survey conducted in 2007 which assessed Hawaii employers' response to eldercare
policies in the workplace. Five specific areas were addressed: 1) the extent of
eldercare policies in the workplace; 2) the availability of eldercare related
benefits in the workplace; 3) the views of eldercare as an employer issue;
4) the effect of eldercare in the workplace, and 5) motivations for and
barriers to the implementation of eldercare benefits.
