The Environmental Planning Office supports efforts toward Environmental Justice (EJ) in line with the DOH Strategic Plan first Foundation of Health Equity and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Plan.

Environmental Justice is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people, regardless of race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies. DOH has this goal for all communities and persons across the State. It will be achieved when everyone enjoys the same degree of protection from environmental and health hazards and equal access to the decision-making process to have a healthy environment in which to live, learn, and work.

More information on the DOH first Foundation of Health Equity can be found   here.

Each year, the US EPA provides competitive national grant funding for non-profit communities to work on. This year, $1.5 million dollars will go out to non-profits for EJ projects. Typically, grant guidance is provided in October and proposals are accepted between November and Early January. If your non-profit would like assistance in applying for an EJ grant, please feel free to contact us for assistance.
