Water Quality Management Program
EPO's Water Quality Management Program is part of the State's efforts to meet
federal Clean Water Act requirements. The EPO Program:
provides technical assistance for revising the State's water quality
standards for inland and marine surface waters;
monitors and assesses the biological, chemical, and physical integrity
of the State's surface waters;
develops long-range water quality management plans and recommendations
at multiple levels (watershed, county, state, regional, national and international);
participates in integrating water quality management activities within
the Department of Health; with other government agencies; and among various
water users, communities, and other stakeholders.
Environmental Geographic Information System
The EGIS is a computerized database system used for environmental
planning, data analysis, and the creation of maps and reports. This
program provides services to the Environmental Health Administration
(EHA), and is instrumental in the creation of GIS data layers from
environmental monitoring results.
Goals and Indicators Program
In conjunction with other EHA offices, the Goals and Indicators
program develops program goals and performance indicators, coordinates
with County, Federal and other State agencies, and sets standards for
baseline evaluation of environmental quality.
Land Use Planning Review
Reviews new developments for potential environmental impacts, and
coordinates Departmental evaluations on mitigative measures. Implements
environmental policies and standards at the earliest stages of the
planning process for statewide project developments. This program also
coordinates requests for public records and handles other public
information functions within the Department.
Legislative Coordination
Plans and coordinates environmental activities with the Legislature,
including the development of legislation.
