services for all programs under the Deputy Director for Environmental
Health. These services include program evaluation and planning, land
use review, legislative coordination, and information management. The
EPO is also responsible for data collection and analysis, and the
development of scientifically-based environmental standards. Current
programs include the following:
Water Quality Management Program

recommends revisions to the existing Water Quality Management Plan for
the State of Hawaii. Other responsibilities include technical
assistance and research toward revising the State's Water Quality
Standards.
Environmental Geographic Information System
The EGIS is a computerized database system used for environmental
planning, data analysis, and the creation of maps and reports. This
program provides services to the Environmental Health Administration
(EHA), and is instrumental in the creation of GIS data layers from
environmental monitoring results.
Goals and Indicators Program
In conjunction with other EHA offices, the Goals and Indicators
program develops program goals and performance indicators, coordinates
with County, Federal and other State agencies, and sets standards for
baseline evaluation of environmental quality.
Land Use Planning Review
Reviews new developments for potential environmental impacts, and
coordinates Departmental evaluations on mitigative measures. Implements
environmental policies and standards at the earliest stages of the
planning process for statewide project developments. This program also
coordinates requests for public records and handles other public
information functions within the Department.
