The purpose of the certification program is stated in Title 11,
Chapter 61. The efficient management of wastewater treatment works is
an important economic asset to the public, to county and state
officials and to operators. Also, effective operation and maintenance
of wastewater treatment works is essential to prevent pollution of the
waters of the state. Furthermore, certification of wastewater treatment
works operators assures the employment of personnel competent to
provide efficient and proper operation and maintenance of wastewater
treatment facilities.

Please call 832-5478 should you have any
questions about operator certification, qualification requirements,
exams, renewal, application forms and fees.
The Board of Certification administers two examinations per calendar year in February and August.
Applications for Wastewater Operator Certification Examinations are mailed to all county, private,
and federal agencies approximately 4 to 5 months prior to the examination date.
Should you require a form, please contact the Board of Certification or download it from the
Operator Certification section above.
The exam application deadline for the August 14, 2008 exam is May 2, 2008.
Exam applications must be postmarked or received at the Statewide Wastewater
Operator Training Center at 1350 Sand Island Parkway Bldg. 3A, Honolulu, HI 96819 by May 2, 2008.
