West Nile Virus Brochure

Surveillance Plan for West Nile Virus in Hawaii

Currently, in Hawaii, we have NO West Nile virus (WNV). In order to detect WNV early and determine if WNV has arrived in Hawaii, the Department of Health (DOH) and other cooperating agencies keep a close watch out for WNV. We call this surveillance for WNV. If WNV were detected, the DOH would implement it's response plan in the hopes of killing the infected mosquitoes before WNV had a chance to become established in Hawaii as it has on the mainland.

There are 5 components to Hawaii's surveillance system.
