Preschool Developmental Screening Program promotes the screening and identification of developmental/behavioral problems in children age 3-5 years. The program trains community providers in using screening tools, provides developmental and behavioral screening for children who would otherwise not have screening, facilitates follow-up, and provides consultation regarding developmental/behavioral concerns and intervention strategies.
What is developmental screening?
Developmental screening is a fast overview of your child's behavior, motor development, speech, language development, and thinking and learning.
Who should be screened?
Children between the ages of three and kindergarten who talk, think, remember, behave, or do things a little differently from other children of the same age.
Why screen?
Screening can help you decide whether your child would benefit from "extra practice" in areas that may be challenging or whether further testing is needed to better understand how best to help him/her.
Why Now?
A young child's learning is at its peak during these earliest years. Any help given now is more effective than help given later.
What happens after the screening?
Some children may need follow-up services. These services may include suggested activities for your child or further evaluation.
