Hawai`i Community Genetics was created as a collaborative effort of the Department of Health, Hawai`i Medical Services Association, Kapi`olani Medical Center for Women and Children, Queen's Medical Center, and the University of Hawai`i John A. Burns School of Medicine. In the future, more local partners will join the collaborative group. Dr. Laurie Seaver is the medical director and one of the clinical geneticists along with Dr. Thomas Slavin at Hawai`i Community Genetics.

Dr. Laurie Seaver comes to our state from South Carolina, where she worked as a clinical geneticist and Director of Clinical Services at the Greenwood Genetic Center. She is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and American Board of Medical Genetics. Dr. Seaver has extensive experience working with pediatric, prenatal and adult patients.

Dr. Thomas Slavin has been with Hawai‘i Community Genetics since 2010. He is also board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and American Board of Medical Genetics. He completed his Medical Genetics residency at University Hospitals, Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio.

Clinical support services at Hawai`i Community Genetics are provided by Sansan Lee (Kapiolani Medical Center); Lianne Hasegawa-Evans, Michele Maeda, Kirsty McWalter and Jennifer Boomsma (Department of Health); and Caitlin Peters and Allison Taylor-Shykowski (Queen's Medical Center).

Hawai`i Community Genetics continues to contract with the Stanford School of Medicine Genetics Program to provide periodic support for clinical pediatric and adult genetic services and genetics education.
