One out of every seven women in Hawaii has been forcibly raped at some point
in their lifetime, according to estimates in a 2003 report. In 2005, approximately
one in ten women at the University of Hawaii reported having been
sexually assaulted since they attended the university.
The Maternal and Child Health Branch works with agencies and organizations
throughout the State to prevent sexual violence and related forms of violence
by:
• Providing oversight of sexual violence prevention agencies receiving
state and federal funds
•
Collaborating with coalitions to increase public awareness through
community education
•
Supporting the development of initiatives for the prevention
of violence against women
