Effective October 1, 2009, the Hawaii WIC Program will offer fruits and vegetables, whole grains,
new culturally appropriate options such as tofu, and baby food. The changes re-enforce key nutrition messages:
- Eat more fruits and vegetables.
- Eat more whole grains and fiber.
- Eat less saturated fat and cholesterol.
- Drink less juice and sweetened beverages.
- Babies are meant to be breastfed.
Hawaii's choices are subject to USDA approval; they were based on federal regulations, participant surveys, availability at WIC stores and costs. Send your comments to wic@doh.hawaii.gov.
