The Walkable Communities / Safe Routes to School Program has created and collected a variety of tools to assist those interested in initiating and establishing similar programs in their communities. The material shared through this toolbox would be of particular interest to schools, churches, community centers, and other organizations which provide services to children and families.

Components of the toolbox include:

  • A descriptive overview of the general process
  • Supporting reference material
  • Publicity samples
  • Family Walking Maps
  • The purpose of this information, based on the experience of programs already launched, is to guide prospective programs in the basics of establishing themselves. Since the circumstances and features of individual organizations are unique, new programs are invited to modify and tailor their processes to more closely suit the needs of their client populations.
