HIV/AIDS Surveillance Program

Provides active disease surveillance service, collects, analyzes, interprets, and disseminates epidemiologic data on HIV and AIDS in Hawai‘i.
Maintains a network with hospitals, physicians, laboratories and other medical facilities to promote accurate and timely reporting of diagnosed HIV and AIDS cases while protecting the confidentiality of reported case information.
Maintains an information network between the Hawai‘i Department of Health and other HIV/AIDS surveillance programs nationwide.
Conducts statistical research and analyses of Hawai‘i HIV/AIDS trends. Publishes the "HIV/AIDS Surveillance Semi-Annual Report" and produces other reports and informational material as needed.
Serves as the principle source of information regarding trends in the number and characteristics of HIV-infected persons. The high level of scientific integrity makes HIV/AIDS surveillance data the most accurate and precise available which can be used to monitor the distribution and spread of HIV/AIDS, to help evaluate education and prevention measures, and to help fairly allocate resources.
