  • Train University of Hawaii and Kapiolani Community College students.

  • Host workshops and trade demonstrations in laboratory science.

  • Provide adjunct faculty to area colleges and universities.

  • Train law enforcement supervisors on breath alcohol testing.

  • Emergency response exercises & training with HFD, county, state, & federal law enforcement.

  • Lead the Hawaii Laboratory Response Network.

Denise Nelson
Denise Nelson, a PhD student at University
of Hawaii, catalogs 2009 H1N1 pandemic
influenza A specimens. Denise's research
is an example of collaboration between SLD
and university-based colleagues.
               
Dr. Brett Ellis
Dr. Brett Ellis calculates detection limits
in a developmental real-time polymerase
chain reaction (rti PCR) assay for human
leptospirosis during his 2006-2008 Emerging
Infectious Disease Research Fellowship.

Nathaniel Moore
Nathaniel Moore examines biochemical
reactions used to identify enteric bacteria.
He was our 2007 Training Fellow sponsored
by the Centers for Disease Control and the
Association of Public Health Laboratories.
               
Tirrel Grovenstein
Tirrel Grovenstein studies the microscopic
morphology of microorganisms. She is our
2009 Training Fellow sponsored by the
Centers for Disease Control and the
Association of Public Health Laboratories.
