This month, SHPDA issued its report "Home Health Care In Hawaii:
1995 Utilization and Estimation of Need" (May 1996). The
report is the product of a partnership with the Hawaii Association
for Home Care. The report is based on data from a survey done
earlier this year. The results of the survey were excellent!
There was an 83% response rate from home health agencies and
a 100% return rate from Medicare certified agencies. The report
indicates that Hawaii is near capacity for home health agencies.

Legislative
Update:
The legislature funded SHPDA at its staff of eight. (Please
note this reflects the 25% reduction-in-force which happened last
summer.) However, our operating funds are tight for fiscal year
1997. The budget documents put together in the Fall of 1995 miscalculated
increased salary levels as more senior civil service staff "bumped"
less senior staff. As a result, actual personnel costs represent
a larger portion of the budget than originally projected -- thus
there are less dollars for other items. For this reason, the
SACs are asked to be as judicious as possible in their requests
of staff and resources.
